The year 2019 has come and gone. The year of RWC – Rugby World Cup. As I am writing this report, I am watching our Team – the Springbok beating the Wales by 19 to 16. I want to wish Siya Kolisi, our Captain, the best of luck in the FINAL against England. I have faith in our TEAM that they will bring the World Cup to South Africa. Go Bokke GO !!!

We started the year 2019 on a very sad note after losing the Founder and Owner of New Horizon College, ntate VM Botha. Mr Botha passed on in December 2018. Good men must die, but death cannot kill their names. What Mr Botha did for black education is priceless. We will make sure that his legacy continues. MAY HIS SOUL REST IN PEACE!!! Astra Ascantia!!!

The class of 2018 obtained a 100% pass rate in their final examination. What a perfect send – off for Mr Botha. He wanted nothing but nothing less than a 100% pass. At New Horizon College, excellence is not hit and run but it is consistency. We are looking forward to the class of 2019 to give us the best results.

A spectre of violence has hit schools across the country despite efforts by school officials and education authorities to stem the tide. The challenges we are facing across the country include: Bullying, Drugs, Alcohol, Racism, Cyber – bullying, Homophobia, Xenophobia etc. Learners are not safe anymore in their own schools. Teachers are no longer safe in their own working environments.

To all the Teachers, Administrative staff, Ground staff, Kitchen staff, parents and most importantly the department of education: THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

We will strive to serve the community at large by providing educational opportunities, and only then do we achieve our goals as an academic institution as we are building the future leaders of South Africa. In our country, education is priority number one. Let’s invest in the future of our children.

I will be failing if I don’t  thank our Heavenly Father: Thank God, our Almighty, for every day blessings. If it were not for God’s divine grace, we wouldn’t be where we are today. Praise be to God.

God bless you

Astra Ascantia
